Overview

The Ponds High School, located in The Ponds in the north‑west of Sydney, is a 7–12 comprehensive high school that will have over 2370 students in Years 7–12 in 2026. The school emphasises welfare, a culturally inclusive program, support for the creative and performing arts, and a BYOD program using Canvas. This Head Teacher PDHPE role includes managing sport and the new curriculum requirement of Health and Movement Science.

General Selection Criteria
  • Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
  • Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
  • Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
  • Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
  • Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria
  • Approval to teach Physical Development, Health & Physical Education; Community & Family Studies; and Sport, Lifestyle & Recreation
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the demonstrated capacity to lead a dynamic PDHPE faculty with the ability to develop the skills of a large and diverse range of teachers
  • Demonstrated ability to work productively and proactively as a member of the executive team to analyse data and lead and support whole school priorities and initiatives that result in improved outcomes for students
  • Demonstrated passion and commitment to nurturing and promoting physical activity, sports and a positive approach to health, wellbeing and nutrition across a school/community
Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
