Gilgandra High School is an inclusive, culturally diverse rural school residing on Wiradjuri, Kamilaroi and Wailwan Land, with a student body of 189, of whom 41% identify as Aboriginal. Gilgandra High School has a strong tradition of academic, agricultural and sporting success, with skilled teachers that have a broad range of experiences, who value academic excellence and readily cater for all student learning styles and abilities.
Gilgandra High School has three Multi-Categorical classes and a Tutorial class catering for students with additional needs. The systems for student behaviour and learning are strongly supported through the Wellbeing Framework and the Wellbeing Hub (Bundyi Baayay), underpinning the strong student wellbeing ethos in the school. Students consistently achieve their desired post school options, including university placement, apprenticeships and traineeships.
Gilgandra High School has well-maintained facilities, including three trade-training centres, relationships with tertiary institutions and Wiradjuri language; providing an inclusive curriculum, ensuring student interests, academic levels and goals are supported. Our school has strong relationships with the feeder primary schools in the area who support our effective transition programs.
We welcome community involvement in our school and have an active parent body who, through their support, enrich our students' learning experiences and school culture. We value the contribution that the Gilgandra school community makes to the future directions of the school and we value feedback from across all sectors of the school community. As such, we have provided opportunities for the students, staff and the school community to engage in consultation and feedback via a number of channels throughout the year.
Selection Criteria- Approval to teach Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE), with a strong knowledge of current curriculum, assessment, and reporting requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to design, implement and evaluate differentiated, evidence-based teaching and learning programs that maximise student engagement, growth, and achievement across a diverse range of learners.
- Proven capacity to contribute to the delivery of school sport and to lead or support extra-curricular initiatives that promote student wellbeing, participation, and connection to the school community.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and the wider community, and to contribute effectively to a collaborative and supportive faculty culture.
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
