You will play a central role in strategic planning, service development, and the implementation of evidence-based practices to enable the delivery of maternal and child health (MCH) services, immunisation services, and parenting support programs. Your leadership will ensure the delivery of high-quality, family-centered care that meets the diverse needs of our community, including vulnerable and at-risk populations.
In this influential position, you will work closely with internal stakeholders, external partners, and community organisations to strengthen early years support systems and contribute to Council's broader public health and well-being objectives.
This position requires both strategic insight and hands-on coordination, balancing the big picture with operational excellence. You will champion collaborative approaches and continuous improvement across the unit and the Community Support Department, support data-driven decision-making, and ensure that services reflect the diverse needs and voices of families in the community.
What your day will look like
- Providing experienced, empowering leadership to guide a transitioning, multi-disciplinary team through change with clarity, support, and vision
- Championing innovative, integrated service delivery across maternal and child health, immunisation, and family services
- Collaborating closely with internal Units who are responsible for delivering the administrative functions of the MCH Service and creating the evidence base to inform service and business planning
- Advocating for and engaging in opportunities that diversify funding streams and expand service programs
- Oversee the development and implementation of strategic and operational plans that support service integration, workforce development, quality improvement with the latest research, practice frameworks and government priorities.
- Applying a strategic, data-informed approach to boost participation in key age and stage visits, while strengthening workforce capacity
- Building and maintaining influential partnerships with key stakeholders, including MAV, state government agencies, and health service providers.
What you will bring
Mandatory Qualifications to practice as a MCH Nurse in Victoria, as outlined in the Position Description –
- Current registration with AHPRA:
- Registered Nurse (Division 1)
- Registered Midwife, and;
In addition to the above registrations, accredited postgraduate Diploma/Degree (or equivalent) in Child and Family Health Nursing.
- Extensive experience practising as an MCH nurse preferably in the Victorian MCH Service
- Extensive experience in policy and strategy development, service planning and delivery along with a working knowledge of evidence based family health and wellbeing services and the relevant legislative frameworks and funding guidelines
- Demonstrated ability in preparing annual budgets and managing budgeting processes including, cash flows, variance and other financial reports
- Demonstrated experience in the preparation and presentation of high-level Department and Council reports
- Experience identifying and analyse strategic opportunities for service development and innovation in a growing community.
