Melanoma Institute Australia (MIA) is an independent, non - profit organisation located in North Sydney. MIA is formally affiliated with the University of Sydney and collaborates with individuals at St Vincent's, Mater Health and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital to improve the outcome for patients with melanoma. Each year around 2,000 new melanoma patients are referred to MIA and approximately 20,000 follow-ups occur. MIA has become a major referral centre for melanoma patients in NSW and overseas.
About The Opportunity
MIA currently seeks a Research Assistant to provide quality venepuncture, specimen processing and administrative project support for clinical trials within the Clinical Trials unit. This position will offer you a high paced workload and broad clinical and administrative exposure. This is a 6-month contract position, with the possibility of extension beyond the initial term

Responsibilities
- To succeed in this role, you will work closely with clinical trial coordinators to provide a blood collection and processing service for patients participating in clinical trials.
- You will be flexible in terms of working hours to support our clinical trial coordinators and be available for clinics and patients.
- You will process blood samples following clinical trials protocols, which involves storing blood in its components and shipping samples to national and international testing laboratories.
- Your workload will include entering data into databases, maintaining tracking documentation and managing inventory.
- You will be able to confidently communicate sensitive information and patient management issues to members of the team.
- You will also work closely with the Biospecimen Bank team and researchers from University of Sydney and Macquarie University.
- Review of laboratory manuals for current and new protocols
- Preparing site for new trials including attendance of SIV, reading through laboratory manuals, flow charts and other necessary materials to develop workflow processes for the trial
- Other General Research Duties such as Query resolution across all clinical trials via e.-mail, telephone, in person, or via the investigator portals, Maintaining weekly records of -70°C freezer temperature log and collection of source documentation from other departments.
- The successful candidate will have a degree/diploma/certificate in medical science, nursing, health or a related field or equivalent experience.
- Experience working with patients in pathology, clinical or hospital setting, and experience in laboratory procedures are desirable qualities.
- You will have excellent attention to detail, initiative, and ability to prioritise work to achieve goals.
