What you'll do

As a member of this team, you will be challenged every day as you coordinate satellite earth station operations including 1.8M up to 9M tracking antennas, RF/microwave electronics, and monitor and control system software. You will maintain the diverse RF systems we have through direct work or leading our vendors on how to do the work while maintaining the documentation associated to the incidents along with leading projects on the systems. You have the ability to lead and communicate with a diverse group of vendors over a wide geographical area and overseas along with other functional areas within ViaSat.

The day-to-day
  • Respond to alarms and document the issue and resolution in the ticketing system.
  • Remotely work with external vendor remote hands support on all troubleshooting, resolution, and improvement activities.
  • Coordinate with on-site Vendors as they install RF Devices.
  • Create, update, and maintain gateway related Method & Procedure (M&P) and Runbook documentation utilized by teammates.
  • Dissect complex issues that require you to bring together schematics, automated data and many other resources to find and resolve the issue.
  • Manage or provide support for projects associated to maintaining a diverse setup of gateway networks.
  • Provide afterhours and weekend on-call support for the AU systems.
What you'll need
  • 2 year Associate Degree or equivalent related to RF Communications.
  • 5+ years experience running gateway uplink antenna systems, earth stations or running applicable projects or programs.
  • Experience maintaining Satellite or Terrestrial Microwave Earth Stations.
  • Experience using RF test equipment such as a Spectrum analyzer Signal Generator.
  • Experience mentoring and leading individuals in the RF space.
  • Ability to perform 24x7 On-Call support on a rotating basis.
  • Ability to lift 11.3 kg.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%.
  • Legally authorized to work in Australia.
What will help you on the job
  • Working knowledge of IP encryption devices, Ka/Ku band RF equipment, tracking antennas, and communications theory a plus.
  • Experience with Monitor and Control System software.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Project Management skills.
  • Network system support and troubleshooting experience a plus.
  • Experience working in ticketing systems.
