We are excited to be sourcing for a newly shaped Senior Chemist for our SAS Labs, that forms part of our Customer & Innovation group.

The Customer and Innovation group leads and champions the way Urban Utilities connects with its customers. Our approach is focused on remaining contemporary, by understanding the current and future needs of our customers and appropriately shaping our services.

In this role, you will be the subject matter expert (SME) in analytical chemistry, with specialization in either general chemistry and nutrients, organic compounds, or trace metals analysis. The incumbent is responsible for the accurate, efficient, and high-quality delivery of chemical analyses within their area of expertise, supporting the laboratory's production goals and ensuring analytical integrity.

You will also be a technical leader of the team, providing expert guidance in method development, problem solving, validation, troubleshooting, and data interpretation. The role also supports the broader team by offering strategic direction on analytical approaches, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and fostering continuous improvement in laboratory practices.

Some of your accountabilities will include:

• Provide technical leadership including reviewing and approving experimental designs, methods and results and mentoring junior chemists and lab technicians in best practices and technical skills.
• Provide analytical expertise and troubleshooting support to internal departments and prepare clear and concise technical reports, summaries, and presentations for internal use.
• Act as a connector between technical teams, by bringing together chemists, analysts, engineers, and other stakeholders to collaborate on innovation projects.
• Evaluate and recommend new technologies or methodologies that are aligned with the strategic direction and foster a continuous improvement mindset.
• Follow the organization's HS&E policies, procedures and mandatory instructions, to identify and mitigate environmental risks and risks to the wellbeing of oneself and others

About You:

We are seeking candidates who are passionate about shaping our future, and ideally have the following qualifications, skills and experiences:

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related field (e.g., Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, or other)
• Demonstrated laboratory experience with a proven track record of expertise in analytical techniques, method development, validation, troubleshooting and implementation.
• Experience in coaching and mentoring chemists or technical staff in a daily laboratory operations environment.
• Experience in NATA accredited laboratory or exposure to GMP or GLMP practices would be advantageous although not a fundamental requirement.
• The role requires close contact with raw wastewater. Immunisation (e.g. Hepatitis A and B, Tetanus) may be required in accordance with Urban Utilities' immunisation policy.
• This role is based at our SAS Lab in Darra, and you are expected to work their full time. There is free staff parking or street parking available.
