The Controller will manage the daily operations of the accounting department, overseeing the preparation and analysis of financial statements, daily cash management, and the creation and maintenance of efficient processes. This role includes leading internal and external auditing procedures and supporting the annual budgeting process. The Controller will also supervise accounting and accounts payable staff, ensuring continuous improvement in processes and efficiencies.

Primary Job Responsibilities/Tasks
  • Manage and monitor all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems to ensure compliance with GAAP standards.
  • Oversee accounting department operations, including accounts receivable, revenue, accounts payable, inventory, cash disbursements, expense reimbursements, journal entries, fixed assets, prepaids, accruals, and intercompany reconciliations.
  • Review cash projections and monitor incoming/outgoing cash.
  • Review payrolls prior to finalization.
  • Lead month-end-close processes, ensuring timely and accurate preparation of monthly financial reports.
  • Analyze and provide explanations for monthly, quarterly, and annual variances in general ledger accounts.
  • Review and approve entries queued by staff and all bank/general ledger reconciliations.
  • Manage tax filings and compliance, including sales tax, 1099s, and business personal property tax.
  • Support annual budgeting, financial audits, workers' compensation audits, and tax filing processes across all business lines.
  • Maintain and update financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems.
  • Lead process improvement and automation initiatives within the department.
  • Continuously improve accounting data accuracy by analyzing processes, developing reports, and verifying information.
  • Provide detailed analysis of income, expenditures, and capital asset values with comparisons to prior periods.
  • Ensure efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness of financial data.
  • Communicate financial data effectively to the VP of Finance and leadership team.
  • Ensure timely completion of required debt payments.
Managing accounting staff
  • Completing new hire selection and timesheet administration efficiently.
  • Ensuring proper training for assigned tasks.
  • Monitoring employee efficiency and adherence to deadlines.
  • Cross-training staff at every opportunity.
  • Maintaining up-to-date, secure documentation of department processes.
  • Maintain regular and timely attendance.
RequirementsEducation and Certifications
  • Master's degree in Accounting and/or CPA preferred.
Experience
  • 6–10 years of accounting and managerial experience.
  • Supervisory experience required.
  • Healthcare experience preferred.
Skills/Knowledge
  • Strong verbal, written, and listening communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational abilities and deep knowledge of accounting rules and processes.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and lead a team effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail, initiative, time management, and prioritization skills.
