Guided by our Christian purpose and values, we advocate for a fairer Australia and work to meet the growing needs across the country. Together, we are building hope and possibility for all. Find out more about us and our purpose.

Your Opportunity

Transition to Work provides free employment services to assist employers in recruiting young employees, including trainees and apprentices. If you have left school early or have faced difficulties finding work, our service can help you develop skills and confidence, supporting your entry into work or education, including apprenticeships or traineeships.

As a Youth Employment Specialist, you will support young people aged 15–24 to secure sustainable employment, apprenticeships, traineeships, or further education. You will help participants overcome barriers, build employability skills, and connect them with community opportunities.

The role involves providing support at our Woolgoolga and Coffs Harbour offices, with potential relief support at other Mission Australia sites across the region, fostering a collaborative and outcomes-driven employment service.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  1. Identifying and responding to concerns about young people's wellbeing, ensuring safe and supportive environments in line with Child Safe Organisation principles.
  2. Conducting holistic assessments to identify employment barriers.
  3. Providing ongoing encouragement, advice, and motivation to help participants stay engaged in work or education.
  4. Developing tailored job plans and reviewing progress regularly.
  5. Referring participants to specialist services or work experience opportunities.
  6. Building and maintaining networks with employers and community stakeholders to secure opportunities.
  7. Maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.

Requirements for Success

  1. Experience in youth, employment, or community services is desirable.
  2. Tertiary qualifications in relevant fields are advantageous.
  3. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other operating systems.
  4. Flexibility to travel across the region.
  5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  6. Proactive, flexible, and able to manage priorities.
  7. Commitment to child safety, confidentiality, and Mission Australia's values.
  8. Driver's license.

Note: A national police check, qualifications, WWCC, and referee checks are required before employment.

Your benefits

  1. Rewarding work that makes a real difference.
  2. Salary packaging benefits to reduce tax liabilities.
  3. Access to free external counselling and chaplaincy support.
  4. Volunteering opportunities.
  5. Additional leave options, including extra public holidays and the ability to purchase extra annual leave.
