Your Role

Based at the Ozanam Learning Centre in historic Woolloomooloo, this role is part of our Community Development Team. The primary focus of the position is to develop and facilitate culturally engaging activities for First Nations community members, both at the centre and through community outreach. Activities may include Indigenous art and craft, storytelling, cultural pride events, and other community-led initiatives. You will also collaborate with other team members to identify community priorities and co-create opportunities that support learning, confidence and connection.

We are looking for someone with a strong connection to and understanding of their own culture, who is confident and culturally sensitive when working with First Nations communities. The right person will be able to facilitate group activities using creative approaches such as art, storytelling and sport, and will bring a genuine passion for community engagement. Experience delivering cultural programs or activities with First Nations communities will be highly regarded.

Your Responsibility
  • Organising activities and events that engage the local first nations community in a culturally safe and respectful way and encourage cultural expression and pride.
  • Organising activities and events that encourage the local first nations community to engage more with the broader program at the Ozanam Learning Centre and wider Society.
  • Support activities and events that can contribute to increased social connection and reconciliation in local areas.
  • Build and maintain necessary internal and external relationships that underpin activities, workshops or programs.
  • Consult with communities and co-design pilot initiatives that create benefits for whole of community
  • Promoting and extending the program offer of the Ozanam learning Centre into target communities and with partner organisations.
  • Managing program logistics and projects to ensure smooth delivery and compliance.
  • Collecting data and evaluating impact to measure effectiveness and drive improvement.
  • This is a dynamic role that will require a high degree of flexibility and agility, strong time management and organisational skills

You Will Need
  • Relevant qualifications and/or demonstrated experience in community development, social work, community services and/or educational program or other relevant area.
  • Demonstrated understanding of community development and asset-based community development.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or demonstrated experience in community development, social work, community services and/or educational program or other relevant area.
  • Demonstrated understanding of community development and asset-based community development.
  • Demonstrated experience working with those who experience social exclusion due to homelessness, the impact of trauma, mental health issues, alcohol and other drug issues and/or unemployment.
