We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic and innovative individual to work as a Clinical Nurse Specialist/ NMP in the CAMHS Children Looked after and Adoption team.
This team supports children and young people up to 18 years old who are looked after or adopted and may be living away from their birth parents, in the care of Nottinghamshire County Council.
This role will primarily involve assessment and co-ordination of ongoing support to children and young people accepted into the service from social workers, whom may be in and out of the county along with Adoption East Midlands and adoptive parents. young people are also welcome to make referrals themselves. Working closely with the team and network this role will ensure complex young people are offered the continuity and specialist they require. It is not an " essential" requirement for the post holder to already hold the NMP training/ status it will be a clear expectation that the close candidate will take on this training and balance this within their role, offering a balance of consultation, assessment and direct work within their role. whilst working closely with the MDT and in particular the Consultant psychiatrist.
The post holder will promote and develop clinical excellence within the team to enhance the mental and emotional well-being of children and young people within Nottinghamshire through sound evidence-based approaches holding a trauma informed approach at all times.
Main duties of the jobOur core purpose is to work with children and young people whom are look after and adopted within Nottinghamshire, may also be placed in Nottinghamshire City and their families/carers, who may be experiencing emotional and mental health disorders that have a significant impact on the child's development and cause distress to the child and/or their carers. We aim to improve the mental health of all children and young people with the provision of a timely, integrated, high quality, effective, multi-disciplinary county wide service.
We work with children and young people up to 18 years old who are looked after and living away from their birth parents, in the care of Nottinghamshire Children's Services. They may be living with foster carers or in residential care.
We will also offer specialist consultation and support to children and young people who have been adopted and their families. with a highly specialised team supporting consultation, assessment and treatment to ensure that a trauma informed lens and trauma informed training is offered to networks in many contexts and in many cases direct work with young people to prevent placement breakdown and hospital stays. we want to provide networks and young people with a clear narrative and understand of what the young person is experiencing and why. It is important to ensure education and support can be given around Trauma and Attachment and the lasting impact of these experiences.

Essential Appropriate professional registered qualification e.g. RMN or equivalent qualification and membership of a registered statutory body e.g. NMC. Post basic qualification in Child and Adolescent Mental Health or relevant experience to master's level or equivalent. Qualification in teaching/supervision and mentoring of students. To have undertaken statutory child safeguarding training or be willing to prior to commencement of the post. Further training/qualification in psychological therapies e.g. family therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, group work
Desirable NMP qualification Sign-off mentor training CPA and/or EHAF training Further or non-statutory child safeguarding children training Further or non-statutory vulnerable adults safeguarding training
Experience Essential Exten sive experience of working therapeutically at Band 6 (or equivalent/ above) with children and young people and families within a Community CAMHS setting using a range of clinical interventions appropriate to the needs of users of the service which are evidence based. Extensive experience of working with young people and their families who have experienced a range of mental health problems (Including psychotic illness, eating disorders, depressive disorders, anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorders) Care co-ordinating care plans. Extensive experience of risk assessment and risk management. To demonstrate ability to carry out highly competent clinical assessments including mental state assessments and risk assessments and develop a formulation of their problems. An ability to apply a crisis management approach to complex clinical situations. Extensive experience of multi agency working including education, health and social care. Experience of providing clinical supervision in relation to complex cases to junior staff and peers. Delivering consultation within CAMHS and other agencies. Experience of audit, research and analytical skills. Demonstrates experience of providing care that is sensitive to the needs of minority groups. An ability to manage and contain the anxiety of other professionals. Extensive experience of involvement: communicating with service users/carers to reflect on and develop services. Demonstration of leadership skills within CAMHS.
Knowledge Essential Understanding and working knowledge of the CAMHS system. Understanding of attachment and early developmental issues Knowledge and experience of the provision of mental health assessment for young people. Working knowledge and experience of the provision of therapeutic approaches and interventions with children, young people and their families. Knowledge of other agencies systems e.g. AMH, Social Care Working knowledge and experience of relevant legislation regarding young people. Extensive knowledge of complex mental health difficulties that affect children, young people and the impact on their families/carers. Working knowledge and experience of safeguarding policies and procedures. Knowledge of trauma and attachment and the why the team may work differently to "core camhs" services.
Skills Essential Advanced skills in communicating highly complex and sensitive information to young people and their families/carers. The ability to communicate highly complex clinical issues to large groups of professionals. Ability to recognise and act upon issues relating to equality of opportunity and anti-discriminatory practice.
Contractual requirements A full UK driving license and vehicle for business use is required for this post; however reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled individuals in line with the Equality Act 2010. Be subject to/undertake CRB checks as required by Trust policy/procedure.
