Navantia Australia has secured the Designer Support Contract to provide comprehensive design and engineering support for all Navantia-designed ships in the Royal Australian Navy.
This milestone marks our first direct contract with the Commonwealth of Australia, highlighting our commitment to innovation and excellence.
We are seeking Intermediate, Senior, and Lead Equipment and Outfit Engineers to work from our offices at Garden Island, Sydney, and Darling Park.
You will deliver design services for naval ship systems, including: Outfit design activities such as compartment arrangements, structural closures, fire protection, deck arrangements, equipment layouts, ladders/platforms, cargo handling systems, foundations, mooring and anchoring systems, coatings, and deck coverings.
Your responsibilities include: Applying broad technical knowledge in the design of outfitting systems and equipment on naval ships.
Collaborating with the engineering team across disciplines.
Planning and managing engineering projects from concept to delivery, including stakeholder engagement.
Developing ship system documentation, impact assessments, drawings, and reports.
Developing specifications for auxiliary systems and ensuring compliance with classification and legislative standards.
Liaising with clients and subcontractors.
Conducting design studies using Hull Design, 3 D modelling, and Finite Element software.
Managing project schedules, resources, budgets, and progress reporting.
Participating in design reviews and coordination meetings.
Planning onboard installation works and testing procedures.
Ideal candidate qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
Proven ability to produce clear, high-quality reports.
Understanding of mechanical and ship platform systems.
Experience with CAD/3 D software (Micro Station, Auto CAD).
Knowledge of shipbuilding regulations and standards.
Strong project management and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently, make decisions, and perform under pressure.
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
