Job Description

The Equipment and Outfit Engineer plays a key role in delivering comprehensive design support to naval ships. They work closely with the Engineering Team to provide design services for various systems, including outfitting design activities such as compartment arrangements, structural closures, fire protection, deck arrangements, equipment arrangements, ladders/platforms, cargo handling systems and equipment, minor foundations, mooring and anchoring systems, coating preservation and deck coverings.

As part of this role, you will be responsible for providing experience and broad technical knowledge of functional and detailed design related to outfitting design and systems (equipment stowage/foundations, furniture, structural closures, metal joiner doors and bulkheads, deck coverings, false floors, false ceilings, linings, insulation, etc.) of a naval ship.

You will work effectively within the broader Navantia Engineering Team by engaging and working with different engineering disciplines, planning and coordinating engineering projects from concept through to delivery, including the development of project plans, schedule, and engagement of internal and external stakeholders.

You will participate in the development of ship's platform systems documentation: impact assessment analyses, drawings, reports. Deliver technical reports and technical documentation in accordance with established standards.

Additionally, you will develop naval ships' auxiliary systems specifications and other design documentation, ensuring ship systems are designed, delivered, and maintained within Classification Society rules and ship design standards.

Furthermore, you will ensure compliance to legislative requirements – IMO, AMSA, Commercial, and Naval Standards, and liaise with Clients (internal & external) and subcontractors.

Requirements analysis and verification development, design studies and analysis using hull design, 3D modeling, finite element, and other engineering software packages, project management, including management of task schedule, resourcing, budget, and progress monitoring and reporting.

Lastly, you will participate in design coordination meetings with engineering team members, participate in design review meetings with the client, assist in planning and coordinating on-board installation works, including scopes of work, installation work packages, and test procedures.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • - Bachelor's degree – Engineering.
  • - Proven ability to produce clear and well-presented reports to a suitable quality and standard.
  • - Demonstrate an understanding of mechanical and ships platform systems (such as propulsion, hydraulics, pumps, piping, cranes, winches, HVAC, fire suppression systems, etc.).
  • - Experience in the relevant CAD/3D software package (Micro-station, AUTOCAD).
  • - Experience working with technical shipbuilding regulations (Classification Society and IMO requirements).
  • - Project management skills and interpersonal skills.
  • - Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning, listening, and decision-making skills.
  • - Demonstrated ability to deliver results in a high-pressure environment.
  • - Ability to communicate, (written and verbal), effectively and build positive relationships at all levels of the business and clients.
