About the opportunity Equis's first BESS project at Melbourne Renewable Energy Hub is registered with AEMO, soon to be commissioning and operational.
By mid 2027, Equis will expand to operating a NSW BESS, closely followed by QLD and SA BESS projects.
Beyond BESS, Equis is also developing Wind, Solar and Hybrid Projects across the National Electricity Market.
Equis are looking for a highly motivated and analytically driven recent Ph D graduate to join our Energy Markets team in a fixed-term position.
This role provides an excellent opportunity to apply advanced research and technical skills in a real-world energy market context, working across modelling, forecasting, and data analysis.
You will work with experienced energy professionals on some of the toughest and most exciting challenges of the energy transition.
Using a combination of advanced modelling tools and your own analysis programs, you will support critical business decisions by modelling electricity prices and utility battery operations.
Primary responsibilities Modelling of Energy Markets Dynamics: Assist in developing and executing PLEXOS models for electricity market studies (e.g., capacity expansion, operational dispatch, and reliability assessments).
Support scenario analysis, sensitivity studies, and calibration of modelling inputs.
Forecasting of electricity demand and prices: Develop and refine demand and price forecasting models using statistical and machine learning techniques.
Conduct back-testing and performance evaluation of forecasting methods.
Energy Markets Data Analysis: Analyze historical and real-time market data to support modelling, forecasting, and strategic insights.
Build dashboards, visualizations, and tools to communicate key market trends.
Tool Development & Automation: Contribute to the development of internal Python-based tools to automate modelling and analysis workflows.
Support the integration of data pipelines and model execution frameworks.
Documentation & Communication: Clearly document models, assumptions, and results.
Present findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders across the business.
To succeed in this role, you will need A completed Ph D in a relevant field such as: Power Systems / Electrical Engineering Energy Systems / Environmental Engineering Applied Mathematics / Operations Research Data Science / Computer Science Economics / Econometrics Strong technical skills in modelling, data analysis, and forecasting.
Experience with PLEXOS or other energy market modelling platforms is highly desirable.
Proficiency in Python, R, or similar analytical languages.
Strong analytical thinking, with a problem-solving mindset.
