About the Role The Electrical Design Engineer (Primary Systems) will be responsible for: Providing detailed design of HV Substations and HV Reticulation Networks (up to 33k V) according to standards like IEC 62271 and AS 60076 Planning and conducting professional engineering works Developing HV single line diagrams and protection diagrams Understanding HV protection systems Developing technical specifications for HV switchgear, transformers, battery chargers, etc.
Designing indoor substation layouts considering Australian standards such as AS 2067 Designing HV cables, including cable detail and sizing following IEC 60228 and IEC 60853 Applying insulation coordination and lightning protection standards like IEC 60071 and AS 1768 Having knowledge of fault calculation, power quality, and harmonics Meeting with clients to resolve technical issues Assisting with site installation and commissioning Interfacing with other disciplines such as earthing, bonding, EMI, civil, and structural Developing specifications and liaising with management on design issues Using cable sizing and HV modelling software About You University degree in Electrical or Power Systems Engineering (or equivalent)Minimum 8 years relevant experience in HV substation and HV distribution networks Knowledge of HV distribution design standards, both Australian and international Fundamental understanding of HV primary design Understanding of civil/structural interface requirements for HV substations Site experience in construction and commissioning projects Ability to learn software packages like CYMCAP, DIg SILENT Power Factory independently; experience is an advantage Chartered status such as RPEQ, NER, or CPEng is desirable What We Offer Diverse opportunities for growth and achievement Flexible working arrangements Ongoing training for career progression Competitive remuneration package including salary continuance insurance, employee assistance programs, AIA Vitality wellness program, and discounts on health insurance, vehicles, travel, and more What Makes You Right for UGLCommitment to a safe, supportive, and positive workplace Ability to foster a collaborative culture Technical excellence and innovative solutions Building trust with stakeholders Genuine concern for safety Why Join UGLWe support Australia's infrastructure through transport, energy, and technology projects.
