Your work will involve surveillance, intelligence gathering, and regulatory analysis to help uphold compliance standards and strengthen trust in Australia's financial system.Sydney or Melbourne $94,198 - $112,011 depending on experience (plus 15.4% superannuation) Permanent (Full time or Part time) Applications close at 11:59pm AEST, Thursday, 14 August 2025 The teamThe Wholesale Markets Team (WMT) sits within ASIC's Market Conduct team, which works to ensure trust and confidence in Australia's financial markets.
WMT is responsible for supervising wholesale OTC intermediaries, issuers, and wholesale funds (including private credit and private equity).The team undertakes surveillance of market conduct, manages conduct risks, and contributes to the development of market conduct standards.
By identifying and disrupting misconduct, raising standards, and promoting a level playing field, WMT helps maintain the integrity and resilience of Australia's wholesale markets.The roleAs a Lawyer / Analyst, You WillLead or assist with intelligence gathering, surveillance activities, and project work to test compliance of wholesale market intermediaries and issuers in private markets.
Conduct on‑site surveillances and desk‑based reviews to assess compliance with regulatory requirements and address emerging issues, trends, and risks.
Provide technical analysis, evaluation, and guidance on compliance issues, preparing reports, memoranda, and briefings for internal and external stakeholders.
Develop and maintain strong supervisory relationships with wholesale market participants, industry bodies, and other stakeholders.
Contribute to cross‑functional project teams, sharing knowledge and ensuring timely delivery of surveillance outcomes.
About YouYou will have relevant tertiary qualifications (law, commerce, finance, or related discipline) and experience in analysing complex business and policy issues.
You can interpret and apply financial services legislation, including the Corporations Act, ASIC Act, and Australian financial services licence conditions.
Experience with wholesale funds, OTC markets, surveillance activities, and regulatory compliance will be highly regarded.You will have strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to evaluate complex technical information and present findings clearly to different audiences.
You work effectively in project teams, maintain collaborative relationships with stakeholders, and demonstrate initiative in managing competing priorities.
