About The Opportunity South Western Sydney Local Health District is recruiting for a Visiting Medical Officer to complement and enhance the current team.

What You'll Be Doing The Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) will provide expert medical assessment and management of people requesting access to voluntary assisted dying under the NSW Voluntary Assisted Dying Act 2022 and will work as part of the SWSLHD VAD Central Support Service.
They will ensure a high standard of professional performance acting as VAD Coordinating, Consulting, and Administering practitioners, and contribute to the program to so that clinicians, services, and the public are well served, and all aspects of the legislation are complied with.
SWSLHD VAD Services are provided to people within our hospitals and community settings.
The VMO will ensure a high standard of professional performance and encouragement of an academic environment which supports education, research, and professional development.
Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position in the SWSLHD.
To fulfill the Coordinating or Consulting practitioner role, applicants must hold specialist registration or hold general registration and have been practicing in the medical profession for at least 10 years.
To fulfill the Administering Practitioner role, applicants must hold specialist registration, or general registration and have been practicing in the medical profession for at least 5 years.
Mandatory training will be required to fulfil these roles and will be supported by SWSLHD.
How To Apply To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the selection criteria as thoroughly as possible.
Current medical practitioner, registered, or eligible for registration, with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellow of a recognised Australasian Specialist College or recognition as a specialist by the Medical Board of Australia and/or practiced in the medical profession for at least 10 years as the holder of General Registration as provided under the Health Insurance Act 1973.
Medical Indemnity Coverage (Levels 2 to 5).
Completion of the mandatory Voluntary Assisted Dying practitioner training and be registered as a authorised Practitioner with the NSW Voluntary Assisted Dying Board.
Demonstrated current clinical practice of a high standard and ability to adapt clinical practice in accordance with contemporary evidence based best practice.
Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
Demonstrated participation in teaching and training at undergraduate and/or post graduate level, including supervision of junior medical staff.
Demonstrated commitment to continuing self-education and development, including evidence of participation in continuing medical education/ continuing professional development.
Demonstrated ability to comply with the service objectives of a public health organisation, including the provision of services to the local community, effective utilisation of resources, and preparedness to participate in the provision of health services at an LHD level.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and staff and to work as an effective member of the clinical team across multiple sites.
Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2).
Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment.
Learner's licenses are not permitted.
