General Manager, Sales - Australia Location: Melbourne As General Manager, Sales – Australia, you will be responsible for leading and executing Fluence's sales strategy across Australia, with a primary focus on leading the Sales Team in Australia.
This role requires an inspirational leader and strategic thinker who can drive commercial success, forge strong customer relationships, and deliver scalable solutions in a rapidly growing clean energy market.
To achieve these objectives, the General Manager, Sales is expected to bring extensive experience in driving cross-functional "deal teams" and leading by example throughout the entire sales cycle—from the early identification and qualification of opportunities through to commercial negotiations and successful deal closure.
This hands-on leadership style will be critical to growing a robust project pipeline, increasing market share, and ensuring high-quality execution aligned with Fluence's global standards.
You will be instrumental in positioning Fluence as the go-to partner for energy storage and digital solutions while developing a high-performing sales organization to achieve and exceed ambitious growth targets.
Sales Leadership & Strategy Lead, mentor and grow the Sales Team in Australia, fostering a performance driven customer centric culture.
Develop and implement a comprehensive sales strategy aligned with regional goals Oversee the full sales lifecycle including opportunity identification, customer engagement, proposal development, negotiation and contract finalization.
Negotiating and closing deals and complex sales to meet the allocated segments / accounts topline and margin budget targets within Australia, and build a sustainable pipeline of opportunities for the long-term Build strong commercial relationships with external stakeholders, implement strategic account approach to develop partnerships Lead offer preparation and negotiations on commercial and technical aspects of customer contracts with sales engineering / proposal manager and the assigned commercial project manager: Aligning the Fluence team to achieve the volume objectives - Work with Commercial Project Management, Sales Engineering, and Procurement to formalize and define solutions for customers and get relevant customer and Fluence approvals for sale - Develop full understanding of Fluence energy storage technology platforms and their capabilities to provide customers with technical support and differentiated offering - Capture customer commercial, technical and application requirements, as well as problem(s) to be solved to help define competitive solutions - Support finding Balance of Plant contractors or external partners if needed, and support communicating scope and evaluate proposals with the deal team Adhere and apply to governance along the sales cycle (SFDC, Go/No Go, Capture teams, Close plans), including holding up to forecasts Customer & Market Engagement Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders: Utilities, developers, government bodies, and investors.
Champion Fluence's brand and capabilities in Australia's rapidly evolving energy sector.
Stay current with regulatory and market developments to anticipate customer needs and identify new business opportunities.
Cross-functional Collaboration Collaborate closely with project execution, engineering, product, legal, and commercial finance teams to deliver tailored, bankable solutions.
Align sales efforts with marketing initiatives and support brand positioning strategies in Australia.
Business development / growth Understanding of the Fluence energy storage current and future technology platforms to sell based on value proposition / differentiation Provide customers with technical support as well as feedback of customer needs to Technology / Product Management and Growth teams - Constant communication of Australia market needs, activities, learnings, and targets.
Be the voice of the customer.
Develop network and market knowledge of relevant electricity grids / markets in coordination with the regional Commercial Growth team and take part to external activities to shape markets and position Fluence's value proposition Embrace and support Fluence's local growth strategy, focus on defined customer(s) and customer segments and execute according to that strategy.
Identify new market segments, applications, business models, sales channel, contracting models, and delivery models/partner strategies for review, prioritization, and implementation based on approved go to market strategy for region Develop and manage approved sales channels through the formulation, adoption, and management of sales/marketing programs / policies with the support of the region's Commercial Growth team Ensure the proper implementation of such sales and marketing programs and policies in Fluence, as well as report on the effectivity and manage the continuous improvement of said programs Execute specific assigned projects in relation to the development and management of market segments, applications, business models, and sales channels Required Qualifications and Experience15+ years of experience in B2 B sales, with a minimum of 10 years in the energy, power, or cleantech sector in Australia.
Demonstrated success in leading regional sales teams, ideally within the Australian market.
Experienced in managing deal teams to close contract negotiations Proven experience managing complex, multimillion-dollar projects and contracts.
Strong knowledge of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage in Australia or alternatively related to the power (renewables) and T&D markets with existing relationships with key players and full understanding of the investment / buying processes Collaborative with an ability to solve complex technical problems and to be the voice of the company towards the market Independent, strong decision making and analytical skills Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder management skills Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
