About the role: This role is part of the Group's Corporate Affairs and Sustainability team, which includes government and industry relations, reputation, corporate communications, and sustainability professionals.
The team manages Virgin Australia Group's corporate image, media relations, and government reputation.
Based in our Brisbane Head Office, the Government Relations Manager will collaborate with the General Manager of Government Relations & Industry Affairs and Virgin Australia leadership to develop government engagement strategies for areas of strategic importance.
The role will be at Manager or Senior Manager level depending on experience.
You will develop and maintain relationships with key government stakeholders across state, territory, and federal levels, including parliamentary staffers, to ensure effective engagement on strategic issues.
Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Providing advice to senior leadership to enhance their engagement with government for strategic objectives.
Supporting the implementation of government relations strategies and tracking progress.
Preparing briefs and background material for engagement with Ministers, MPs, and government departments.
Collaborating with the wider Corporate Affairs team to align government relations with media and public communications strategies.
You'll be great in this role if you have: Experience in a similar role within a corporate setting.5+ years in a government relations advisory role in Australia.
Willingness to work collaboratively and build consensus on complex issues.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain trusted relationships with colleagues, MPs, advisers, and departmental reps.
Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines.
Ability to analyze policy directions and political motivations.
Strong commercial acumen with the ability to influence stakeholders and drive change.
