The role: As part of our commitment to continuous improvement, MSIAP's Projects Team is in the process of strengthening its policies, procedures and practices.
To this end, MSIAP is creating a Project Grants Manager position.
The role will be reporting to the Projects Director.
They will be responsible for shaping, embedding and monitoring compliance with relevant policies and procedures, line managing the PGOs, managing strategically important projects and relationships together with the Projects Director.
This is a country program and donor-facing role with purpose and a mandate for driving quality improvement and impact with responsibility spanning the entire project portfolio.
Success will depend on creating the conditions for the team to thrive and effectively influence internal stakeholders and our donors.
Key responsibilities: Drive a culture of high performance alongside the Projects Director, rooted in clear communication, psychological safety, and continuous improvement.
Supervise and support Project Grant Officers, setting expectations, offering feedback and recognition, and empowering them to deliver results independently.
Lead the evolution of MSIAP's project support guidelines, adapting them to new learnings, contractual shifts, policy changes, or organisational needs.
Embed those guidelines across MSIAP and its partners—through tailored training, induction materials, and ongoing reinforcement.
Oversee compliance with project support standards, identify gaps, take corrective action, and ensure readiness for DFAT accreditation.
Collaborate with MSI's central and regional teams to align on best practices, harmonise approaches, and strengthen cross-functional support.
Manage a strategically important project end-to-end—from design through to close-out—ensuring it aligns with MSIAP's mission and procedural standards.
Serve as the key interface for donors and internal stakeholders—escalating risks, sharing critical updates with the Projects Director, and facilitating effective reporting and learning.
Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience Relevant degree or equivalent relevant professional experience.5+ years working on international development programmes, ideally in the Asia and Pacific region.
Experience of strengthening organisational policies, procedures and practices.
Experience managing and/or coaching others.
DFAT's policies and procedures, including reporting and compliance requirements.
Sexual and reproductive health.
Cultural competence.
Grant management, including budget management.
Desirable Qualifications, Skills and Experience3+ years working on projects funded by Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
Experience of DFAT accreditation.
Experience of working on DFAT ANCP projects.
Experience of working on managing contractor sub-awards.
Experience of working in low-income countries.
