About the Role

This position will advise our underwriters on risk quality, loss estimates, and loss prevention measures for our mining business. In this role you will closely interact with underwriters and other internal and external clients.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting insurance risk engineering surveys and provide consultations to our customers mainly in the Australia and APAC region;
  • Working with our mining underwriters and providing risk engineering technical advice on risk quality, loss estimates, natural hazard exposures, capacity allocation and loss prevention measures for mid to large mining accounts;
  • Assuming the role as an account risk engineer for selected accounts on which Swiss Re provides lead capacity;
  • Carrying out on-site risk inspections and operations reviews on behalf of underwriters.
  • Interacting with customers, brokers and underwriters regularly;
  • Providing risk engineering consultation to our managed customers in the form of insurance risk surveys, risk improvement recommendations, loss mitigation proposals and specifications; and
  • Formulating risk improvement recommendations to assist clients in their effort to improve the risk quality of their assets.

About You

• A Bachelor's Degree in relevant field (i.e. mining, mechanical, electrical engineering, geology, process engineering etc.);

• Proven experience in the Mining industry (i.e. mining/process unit leader, design, commissioning, maintenance or inspection, project superintendent etc.);

• Previous experience as a mining insurance risk engineer at a broker, insurance company or loss adjuster would be a plus;

• Experience and strong interest in loss prevention topics (e.g. fire protection, machinery breakdown, business continuity, technical risk management);

• Sound knowledge of local and international loss prevention and fire protection standards (e.g. NFPA or equivalent);

• Strong communication, negotiation and presenting skills, an entrepreneurial attitude, and a service mindset;

• Good team player approach;

• High analytical capacity and focus on details;

• Willingness to travel within Australia and on limited basis in the APAC region; and

• Excellent Business and Technical English (essential), any other language would be advantageous.

About the Team

As a member of our global Risk Engineering Services (RES) community, you will be a member of the Global RES Mining team, with engineers located around the world, while also fully embedded in the APAC team. This will allow you to contribute to various projects and papers involving best practices, guidelines, technology, and industry updates.

You will also have the opportunity to become a specialist in dedicated mining industry matters. Our highly agile set-up allows a huge degree of job diversity and development opportunities.
