Role Overview:
As Legal Counsel, you will play a pivotal role in providing expert legal advice and support across a range of corporate and regulatory matters. You will work closely with senior management and various departments to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations, mitigate legal risks, and contribute to the company's strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide comprehensive legal advice and support on a wide range of matters including corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and insurance-related issues.Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, policies, and other legal documents.Monitor and interpret changes in legislation and regulations relevant to the life insurance industry.Manage and resolve legal disputes, working with external legal counsel as required.Develop and implement legal policies and procedures to ensure best practices.Advise on mergers, acquisitions, and other corporate transactions.Conduct training and workshops for staff on legal and compliance issues.Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure legal and business objectives are aligned.Qualifications and Experience: Admitted as a legal practitioner in an Australian jurisdiction5+ years PQE in relevant in-house or private practice teamsExtensive understanding of the life insurance industry and life insurance claims regulations and obligationsSolid technical competency and experienceExperience advising on, and being involved in, responses to regulators, including s33 and 912C notices issued by ASICDesire to develop in new areas of practiceStrong communication skills (written and verbal), with the ability to adapt to different circumstances and stakeholder groupsEmpathetic to end customer perspectivesComfortable operating within and delivering results despite high levels of operational ambiguity and complexityAgile mindset focused on continuous improvementStrong problem-solving and influencing skillsSelf-directed and able to work under minimal supervisionStrong time and matter management skills
