Job Description:

The Management Accountant leads the development and implementation of the budget framework and management accounting service in accordance with relevant policies and accounting standards. You will support the Manager Financial Services in the planning, strategic management and leadership of the Financial Services Branch. You will be responsible for tasks such as advising business units on City financial initiatives and the development of financial strategies to optimise the use of financial resources and ensure effective performance, and providing timely and accurate reporting and advice appropriate to business needs, including monthly reporting and ad-hoc analysis. This is a full time, five year fixed term contract opportunity.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Assesses and reviews budget and forecasts and provides advice and briefings to ELT and CEO as required.
  • Provides specialist advice and/or support for major projects.
  • Develops models and processes to use in budget forecasts, cash management and other management of financial resources.
  • Provides timely and accurate reporting and advice appropriate to business needs, including monthly reporting and ad-hoc analysis and reporting.
  • Supports the Manager Financial Services in the planning, strategic management and development of the Financial Services Branch.
  • Leads the development and management for the budget and resource allocation process.
  • Undertakes complex financial analysis and provides specialist advice and/or support in relation to budgeting, resource allocation and financial matters.
  • Advises business units on City financial initiatives and the development of financial strategies to optimise the use of financial resources and ensure effective performance.
  • Research, prepare and present written reports to Council and Committees
Job Requirements:
  • Effectively conveys information and expresses thoughts and facts. Demonstrates effective use of listening skills and displays openness to other people's ideas and thoughts. Writes reports in area of expertise.
  • Accepts responsibility for own actions and decisions and demonstrates commitment to accomplish work in an ethical and cost-effective manner, contributing to the improvement of quality and efficiencies.
  • Substantial experience in corporate budget development, evaluation and resource allocation.
  • Extensive knowledge of, and experience in, contemporary accounting practices, systems and standards.
  • Works cooperatively and effectively with others to achieve common goals. Participates in building a group identity characterised by City's values
  • Fosters respect for all individuals and demonstrates positive, safe and inclusive behaviours. Interacts appropriately without regard to individual characteristics
