APS5/6 Media Officer/Public Affairs Officer Level 1/2


The Media Relations Officer will handle various tasks under the guidance of the Media Relations Manager in the media/public relations field. The role involves managing day-to-day media activities, such as communicating with media, writing media releases, arranging interviews, monitoring media results, and conducting administrative tasks related to media arrangements.


Key responsibilities:

  • Manage visiting media on-site at the agency, including documentary crews.
  • Prepare media alerts and releases as needed.
  • Respond to media enquiries and organize interviews with agency experts.
  • Coordinate public relations events and partnerships with support from the Media Relations Manager.
  • Handle administrative tasks like email management, financial matters, and record-keeping.
  • Adhere to Work Health and Safety principles and practices outlined in the WHS Act.

Selection Criteria:

  • Experience in preparing and releasing media alerts and interacting with media outlets.
  • Ability to manage media and engagement for large events involving international media.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills along with an understanding of diplomatic protocols.
  • Capability to build and maintain relationships with external and internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborative work approach within a team of specialists.
  • Organizational skills to handle high work volumes and meet deadlines.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Communication, Journalism, or related fields are required.
