Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) is responsible for providing primary and secondary health care for people living in the Auburn, Blacktown, and The Hills Shire, Holroyd and Parramatta Local Government Areas (LGAs) and tertiary care to residents of the Greater Western Region. What you'll be doing

The Nursing Unit Manager of the mental health inpatient unit is responsible for the efficient management and leadership of nursing staff and other relevant staff under their delegation and is pivotal in the coordination and provision of timely, high-quality nursing care to consumers admitted to Mental Health Services WSLHD. The Nursing Unit Manager leads nursing staff, ensures effective liaison between all health professionals and is responsible for the environment, and work, health and safety management of the units.
The Nursing Unit Manager is responsible for but not limited to the:

  • Direction, coordination and supervision of nursing activities;
  • Training, appraisal/performance development and counselling of nursing staff;
  • Rostering and/or allocation of nursing staff;
  • Development and/or implementation of new nursing practice according to consumer needs utilising Evidence Based Practice, compassionate, safe, person-centred, trauma informed care and in partnership with families and carers.

Registration: Current Registration as a Registered Nurse with Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

Selection Criteria:

  • Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisaton; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our consumers, and those that care for them.
  • Registered Nurse-Division 1 with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA), and relevant tertiary management qualifications or working towards same; with equivalent work experience in a Mental Health setting with demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge and extensive post-graduate experience relevant to Mental Health nursing practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage nursing and resource allocations to deliver effective and efficient nurisng care while considering budget implications.
  • Demonstrated high-level problem-solving, negotiation and adaptability skills, interpersonal and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to work with multidisciplinary teams across Mental Health Service.
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate, lead and implement change including new models of care and evidence-based practice designed to improve consumer experience and clinical outcomes.
  • Demonstrated excellence in written communication skills, and high-level computer literacy in Microsoft applications, including MS Teams, roster management systems and electronic medical records.
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing consumer-focused care and ability to embed clinical governance processes and continuous quality improvement within team practices.
