About the Role

  • Undertake health surveillance and diseases prevention and control activities for communicable and non
- communicable diseases and injury.

  • Participate in health promotion, environmental health and other contemporary public health activities.
  • Conduct research projects relevant to public health medicine.
  • Provide public health information, education and advice to other health professionals, government agencies, industry, community groups and individuals.
  • Assess health issues in terms of their public health implications and advocate this perspective when appropriate.
  • Provide ethical decision making in the achievement of organisational goals.
  • Possess sound interpersonal communication, negotiation and analytical skills to enable effective interaction with all internal and external clients.
  • Have good knowledge of the principles and practice of public health, including an understanding of the broader issues affecting public health medical practice.
  • Be competent in computerbased technology especially as it relates to the use of surveillance databases, spreadsheet packages and basic word processing tasks.
  • Comply with and use procedures, policies, regulations and standards which impact upon the position, including contemporary human resource management requirements and practices, such as workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunity and antidiscrimination policies.
  • Ensure patients and other staff are treated fairly and with mutual respect and understanding, regardless of cultural, religious, ethnic and linguistic backgrounds.
