Administration and Communications Officer, Centre for Innovative Justice- One 0.8FTE, 12-month fixed-term position available- HEW 6 + 17% Superannuation and generous leave entitlements- Based at the Melbourne CBD campus, with a hybrid and flexible work arrangement- Providing high level administrative support primarily to the Director and Centre Manager, with some support for Associate Directors

The Centre for Innovative Justice was established to research, teach and promote innovative and evidence-based ways of delivering justice, both through formal court processes and within and across the broader justice system.

The Centre's objective is to drive, develop and expand the capacity of the justice system to meet and adapt to the needs of its diverse users, and to contribute in a positive way to address the underlying issues that bring people into contact with the justice system.

About the Role


As the Administration and Communications Officer you will provide high-level, administrative support to the Director and Centre Manager to aid the smooth operations of the Centre.

The role is varied and broad and will include diary management for the Director, general administration to support the operations of the centre, including finance functions and travel.

The role will also support CIJ events and the communications output of the Centre, including website maintenance, co-ordination of a newsletter and, in collaboration with the Centre Manager, the CIJ's social media platforms.

You will be highly organised and process-oriented, with a keen eye for detail and capacity to work flexibly in a changing environment.

You will have a high level of emotional intelligence, with a strong sense of empathy, compassion and discretion.


You will work well as part of a team and be able to work flexibly but also able to work autonomously.


To be successful in this position, you'll have:

  • Highly developed administration skills including the ability to prioritise, monitor, evaluate and meet tight deadlines;
  • Enthusiasm, energy and self motivation, with a capacity to proactively take responsibility for anticipating and solving emerging problems and requirements;
  • Demonstrated ability to work co-operatively and creatively with others, which will include the director, research staff, and other academic and administrative staff in the school
  • High level interpersonal skills for effective communication and liaison with a wide range of internal and external clients at a variety of levels;
  • Demonstrated high level computer literacy including word processing, spreadsheet and/or database skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to take the initiative in developing work practices,
  • Demonstrated excellent written communication skills, including the ability to assess appropriate communication for different audiences.
  • Demonstrated capacity to foster and enhance harmonious workplace relations.
