About the Role

  • Fulfil the accountabilities and responsibilities of this role in accordance with Metro South's purpose and objectives, as outlined below.
  • Staffing and budget responsibilities: Inpatient and outpatient care, including but not limited to ward rounds, outpatient clinics, the Emergency Department and Operating Theatres.
  • To facilitate budget and compliance by the efficient and effective use of resources.
  • The following positions report to the

PHO:
Intern, Junior House Officer and Senior House Officer working on the ward service.

  • Assess patients, determine and instigate the appropriate investigations and establish management plans for patients in consultation with the supervising consultant.
  • Deliver surgical care under an appropriate level of supervision.
  • Early Discharge Planning (inpatient care).
  • Communication with patients and their carers by outlining findings, management plans and alternative treatments, which form a part of the consent process under an appropriate level of supervision.
  • Communication with an appropriate multidisciplinary team where indicated.
  • Communication with treating and supervising consultants by reporting findings, ensuring that decisions regarding patient care are appropriate and followed through, reporting patient progress, planning ongoing specialist care and facilitating the adjustment of the management plan where necessary.
  • Communication with Nursing staff, Allied Health Staff and other Health Care providers.
