The Bioinformatics Research Officer will work with the ZERO Computational Transcriptomics Leader, the ACRF Child Cancer Liquid biopsy Program and the ACRF Spatial Immune Research Program.

The team encompasses a diverse team of bioinformaticians, scientists, engineers, molecular biologists and clinicians all with the common goal of improving health outcomes for children with cancer.

We create innovative computational tools and software that utilise multi-omics sequencing approaches to facilitate precision medicine, underpinning the ZERO childhood cancer precision medicine program.


As a Research Officer your purpose will be to:

  • generate new methods to understand the tumour immune microenvironment in children, identify and characterise circulating tumour and immune cells from non-invasive liquid biopsies, and spatially profile paediatric cancer patients. This will lead to the development of novel diagnostic tests, novel treatment options, identifying at risk patients earlier, and improving health outcomes in the future
- translate methods and analytical approaches to inform real-time analysis of children with cancer, through partnering with the ZERO Childhood Cancer Program, the ACRF Liquid Biopsy Program and the ACRF Spatial Immunology Research Program (ASpIRe) and key national and international collaborators

To succeed you will have

  • A PhD or equivalent experience in bioinformatics, computational biology or a related field
  • Highly developed skills in genomics or transcriptomics
  • Expert level skills in next generation sequencing analysis and programming in R, python or similar
  • Ability to independently manage competing goals.
  • Ability to manage individual stakeholders
  • Be highly motivated to produce high quality outcomes in pursuit of translational and clinical excellence
  • Highly developed communication skills and must be capable of always maintaining a professional demeanour.
  • Ability to work in an independent manner with minimum oversight.
  • Exceptional time management skills
