_ The Department_:

  • Neurology is a developing specialty within Alfred Health, and recent investment has produced significant growth in this area, particularly with regard to research and clinical trials. Neurology at Alfred Health consists of inpatient units and a range of specialised outpatient clinics._

The Role
Research Assistant will play a crucial role in advancing clinical research related to epilepsy.

Reporting to the Research Fellow and Head of the SUDEP Group, you'll be at the forefront of conducting clinical trials in epilepsy including a recently funded investigator initiated multicenter trial in patients with epileptic encephalopathies who are being treated the novel epilepsy treatment, cannabidiol.

  • Follow organisational safety, quality & risk policies and guidelines

  • Escalate concerns regarding safety, quality & risk to appropriate staff member, if unable to rectify yourself.
  • Promote and participate in the evaluation and continuous improvement processes related to stroke research.
  • Comply with Alfred Health mandatory continuing professional development requirements.
  • Comply with requirement of National Safety & Quality Health Service Standards and other relevant regulatory requirements contained within Good Clinical Practice (GCP).

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Essential:

  • Bachelor of Science or Biomedical Science.
  • 12 years of research experience, preferably in a neurology setting.
  • Prior experience working with patients.
  • Previous experience in understanding of the principles and methods of research, in particular adhering to study protocols, ethics and governance, and good clinical practice guidelines.
  • Previous experience in data entry, data collation and keeping systems for compilation and storage of data, with awareness of confidentiality requirements.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interact professionally with a wide range of personnel in the health and university divisions.
  • Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and data management skills that ensure the smooth delivery of study outcomes while managing competing demands and conflicting deadlines.
  • Demonstrated high level of competency with Microsoft Office including software packages Word, Excel, Power Point, and Endnote.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work both within a team as well as independently with some supervision where required, within a framework of broad guidelines and procedures.
  • Capacity to participate in patient centered research approaches and have a basic understanding of patient and care giver needs and values.
  • Work with the broader team and support the PhD students and clinical researchers where require.

Desirable:

  • A postgraduate degree in biomedical science, health science or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience with successful ethics submissions.
  • Previous experience in using RedCap data depository.
