An exciting opportunity has arisen to contribute to ground breaking research at the Adelaide Medical School which is uncovering genetic causes of cerebral palsy.

The Neurogenetics Research Group is a multidisciplinary research group studying genetic causes and underlying molecular mechanisms of epilepsies, intellectual disabilities, autisms and cerebral palsies. This position works within the theme of cerebral palsy genomics, supporting the activities of the cerebral palsy team, and the broader neurogenetics group as required.

Working under general direction, the Research Officer (RO) will play a key role in patient data management and biospecimen handling and cataloguing for the Australian Cerebral Palsy Biobank. They will contribute experimentally to the validation and functional interpretation of genetic variation, as well as providing administrative support for research activities within the cerebral palsy team and the broader Neurogenetics Research Group.

To be successful you will need:

  • Demonstrated experience in genetic research, or a related area of medical research.
  • Experience in laboratory protocols and technical procedures, including nucleic acid and protein extraction, cell and tissue culture, PCR, immunohistochemistry, qPCR, western blotting and quantitative analysis of data, and willingness to learn new techniques.
  • Demonstrated high level of organizational, interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a part of a team.
  • Completion of a relevant degree with some subsequent relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.

This position requires a valid Working with Children Check.
