The City of Canada Bay is a thriving, colourful community, surrounded by the beautiful bays of Sydney Harbour. The area is also known for its parklands, cycle paths and walkways.

Council is looking for a motivated and driven individual to manage Council's Community Development section.

Initially you will be engaging in the unique opportunity to establish a new Community Development Team and assisting to define Council's preferred Community Development model and framework.

In this dynamic role you will also be engaged in delivering strategies to meet social sustainability goals, implementing access and inclusion plans, managing grant programs, and advocating for diverse local community needs.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Developing partnerships and relationships, and managing programs that are responsive to community needs and build community capacity and participation
  • Leading, managing and motivating the team to achieve strategic goals and objectives
  • Managing Council's annual community grant program to assist local services and organisations to support the community
  • Overseeing Council's Seniors' Bus Trips
  • Developing, managing and reviewing budgets to deliver a range of strategies and plans
  • The successful applicant will have:
  • Tertiary qualification in community development, social sciences, or a similar field.
  • Significant industry experience in community development or a comparable role.
  • Extensive experience managing, supporting and developing a team
  • Strong partnership and relationship management skills
  • Proven experience in implementing social and community strategies and plans.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering community projects and programs.
  • Demonstrated financial management skills including developing and managing complex budgets.
