The Head of Legal - Australasia manages the provision of legal advice and guidance on a wide range of legal matters, including contract preparation, review and negotiations; litigation; M&A activity; employment issues; and regulatory developments.

The role is also expected to work and collaborate effectively and as needed with other OGC practice areas, centres of expertise and functions to ensure that the breadth and depth of the OGC Legal functional service capabilities are delivered in a seamless way to WTW businesses in Australasia.

The role is responsible for managing a small team of attorneys and support staff and may serve on various committees.

The Role

  • Manage the provision of general legal, transactional, and regulatory advice to the Australasia business leadership teams.
  • Manage daytoday legal issues in the Australasian business, across Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.
  • Serve as trusted adviser and resource on legal matters for the abovementioned business team.
  • Drive functional projects and improvement initiatives aligned to OGC and WTW business objectives.
  • Lead, motivate, and manage a professional team, including the monitoring of colleague wellbeing and progress against inclusion and diversity objectives.
  • Undertake and oversee effective engagement with the company's business clients, government regulators, vendors, outside lawyers, trade bodies and other parties.
  • Manage legal issues effectively and efficiently in line with WTW objectives and values and within company and entity risk appetites.
  • Manage outside legal and other spend in accordance with OGC budgeted spend and Outside Counsel Guidelines.
  • Work with the broader global legal and OGC teams as a highfunctioning and collaborative group.
  • Manage the effective use of available management information together with efficient and timely upwards reporting of all key issues and recommendations to the Head of Legal
  • Asia Pacific, including all matters which must be escalated for external and internal board, committee, and other reporting purposes.
The Requirements

  • Demonstrated track record as a senior lawyer across private practice and/or inhouse. Unrestricted practising certificate and in good standing as a practising Australian lawyer.
  • Solid track record of handling complex and sophisticated legal matters in an efficient and commercialfriendly manner.
  • Knowledge and experience in financial services laws and regulation. Experience with insurance broking is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in advising professional services businesses is preferred.
  • Experience giving legal advice to businesses in Australia and/or New Zealand is required.
  • Ability to work closely with and influence all levels of senior management and provide strategic legal advice.
  • Ability to handle confidential information and opinions with discretion. Ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Ability to see the big picture in terms of the Company's legal and ethical obligations for the protection of its reputation.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in managing professionals is preferred. Respected for substantive expertise and work ethic, able to inspire others as a role model.
  • Experience in managing legal matters effectively and in a manner that upholds the Company's reputation for integrity.
  • Experience with company secretarial responsibilities is preferred.
  • Ability to support legal and compliance aspects of M&A (including due diligence), and to identify potential issues.
  • Ability to evaluate and advise on the impact of regulatory changes and to support the Company's businesses and functions in addressing those changes.
  • Innovative thinker, effective delegator but established handson lawyer, with a record of diligent and active involvement in projects.
