Guided by our Values , your responsibilities will include:

  • Leadership and Development: Lead and motivate a team comprising Taxation and Treasury, Corporate Financial Reporting, and Capital and Asset Accounting units. Emphasize staff growth and succession planning to cultivate a positive work environment.
  • Financial Management: Supervise financial accounting services, encompassing management reporting, financial reporting, and reconciliations, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and legislation.
  • Asset Accounting: Direct capital and asset accounting tasks, such as depreciation, impairment, and valuation services. Develop and periodically review the Long-Term Asset Management Plan.
  • Corporate Taxation and Treasury: Oversee the provision of corporate taxation advice, compliance, and tax return submissions. Manage treasury functions to optimize debt and investment portfolios, facilitating cash flow forecasting.
  • Customer Satisfaction: Cultivate professional relationships to provide tailored financial guidance and support that contribute to positive outcomes for the Council and the community.
  • Team Participation: Collaborate with the Financial Services management team to assist the Chief Financial Officer and promote ongoing enhancements in financial services.

What you will bring to the role?

  • Expertise: Robust background in financial accounting with a deep understanding of accounting principles, methodologies, and systems. Candidates from public practice, audit, or similar fields are encouraged to apply.
  • Leadership Skills: Demonstrated experience in leading and developing teams, emphasizing service excellence, cost efficiency, and continuous improvement.
  • Customer Focus: Proven track record in delivering high-quality, customer-centric financial services with expertise in statutory reporting, asset accounting, and accounts reconciliation.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels effectively.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient in financial management systems and current financial practices, with strong computer literacy.
  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Business, or related field
  • Professional membership with CAANZ, CPA Australia, or equivalent
