What you'll be doing

We are seeking a Social Worker, Sexual Assault Worker, Psychologist or Counsellor to coordinate the Safe Wayz Program which provides an integrated response to children under 10 years with problematic or harmful sexual behaviours. Safe Wayz adopts a strength-based, family focused, culturally centred & trauma informed approach to working with children and families to help prevent behaviours from escalating.
The role is based in Surry Hills and works with other SafeWayz program providers and an Aboriginal Safe Wayz clinician across SESLHD. Support for the position is provided by clinical and cultural supervision, a statewide SafeWayz Clinical Advisor and participation in a monthly SafeWayz Community of Practice.

Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.

All Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant.

Category A workers and new recruits who are non-compliant with seasonal influenza vaccination or have a medical contraindication to influenza vaccinations must comply with all other infection control risk reduction strategies as directed while working in a Category A position.

  • Relevant qualification in Bachelor of Social Work which provides eligibility for membership to Australian Association of Social Workers or four-year Degree in Psychology, full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia and a minimum of seven years post full registration experience, Bachelor Degree in Counselling or Graduate Certificate in Human & Community Services (Interpersonal Trauma).
  • Demonstrated understanding and skills in child centred, family focused counselling, support and case management to address problematic or harmful sexual behaviours with young children and their carers.
  • Excellent negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills including the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, throughout all organisational levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide culturally responsive counselling services to individuals and their families and demonstrated understanding of the legal and policy framework governing child protection in NSW.
  • Ability to apply independent professional judgement when dealing with situations of a complex nature in combination with a demonstrated ability to work as part of a small therapeutic team.
  • Ability to initiate, lead, complete and share quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation processes and lead ongoing quality improvement activities with other staff.
  • Demonstrated commitment to clinical and cultural supervision and professional education and, experience providing clinical supervision and leading education and teaching to staff and/or students.
  • Current drivers licence or a willingness to travel in accordance with the demands of the position.
