The Role
NextSense has an exciting opportunity for a Kindergarten Assistant to join our team at Blackburn.

This is a permanent part-time role, working three days per week (Monday Tuesday and Wednesday) 8am - 2.15pm and reports directly to Director, Kindergarten.


You'll make a difference in this role by:

  • In consultation with the teacher, plan and supervise adjacent program areas.
  • Work with groups of children in planned group activities
  • Undertake written observations of children as required and provide these notes to the Early Childhood Teacher.
  • Assist in the implementation of the daily routine completing tasks and activities with mínimal supervision.
  • Under supervision, assist in the preparation, implementation and evaluation of developmentally appropriate programs for individual children or groups.
  • Assist with the supervision of volunteers, students on placement or undertaking work experience
  • Support children with their hearing devices and technology, check hearing devices at the commencement of each session and provide supports during sessions as required
  • Carry out administrative duties which relate to effective room management and responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of the Victorian Early Years Development Framework

Desired Skills and Experience:

To be successful in this role you'll need to demonstrate you meet the following selection criteria:

  • Experience working with young children in a kindergarten (desirable) or childcare setting
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team providing services to children and their families
  • Minimum Diploma in Children's Services or enrolled in an Approved Early Childhood education course (with at least 50% completed)
  • Certified First Aid & Anaphylaxis and Asthma training.
  • Welldeveloped communication skills
  • Experience working with children who are deaf or hard of hearing is desirable
  • A working knowledge of hearing devices and technology is desirable
  • Mandatory Reporting and other obligations for the Early Childhood sector certificate
  • Working with children's check
