We work with children, adults, and their families, providing a holistic approach to hearing services for newborns through to people over 90 years old, and helping children who are blind or have low vision to develop the right skills, mobility, and independence to confidently explore their world.

We are currently creating a world-leading centre for innovation on-site at Macquarie University that represents a new era for hearing and vision loss. This nationally significant social infrastructure project will be a place to nurture, trial and share new ideas and form new partnerships that will drive better outcomes for people who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind or have low vision.

**The Role**

NextSense has an exciting opportunity for a Kindergarten Assistant to join our team at Blackburn. This is a permanent part-time role, working three days per week (Monday Tuesday and Wednesday) 8am - 2.15pm and reports directly to Director, Kindergarten. You’ll make a difference in this role by:

- In consultation with the teacher, plan and supervise adjacent program areas.
- Work with groups of children in planned group activities
- Undertake written observations of children as required and provide these notes to the Early Childhood Teacher.
- Assist in the implementation of the daily routine completing tasks and activities with mínimal supervision.
- Under supervision, assist in the preparation, implementation and evaluation of developmentally appropriate programs for individual children or groups.
- Assist with the supervision of volunteers, students on placement or undertaking work experience
- Support children with their hearing devices and technology, check hearing devices at the commencement of each session and provide supports during sessions as required
- Carry out administrative duties which relate to effective room management and responsibilities.
- Knowledge of the Victorian Early Years Development Framework

**Desired Skills and Experience**:
**To be successful in this role you'll need to demonstrate you meet the following selection criteria**:

- Experience working with young children in a kindergarten (desirable) or childcare setting
- Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team providing services to children and their families
- Minimum Diploma in Children's Services or enrolled in an Approved Early Childhood education course (with at least 50% completed)
- Certified First Aid & Anaphylaxis and Asthma training.
- Well-developed communication skills
- Experience working with children who are deaf or hard of hearing is desirable
- A working knowledge of hearing devices and technology is desirable
- Mandatory Reporting and other obligations for the Early Childhood sector certificate
- Working with children’s check
