The Solutions Engineer ("SE") is responsible for supporting the engineering needs of the sales team, and providing engineering expertise to projects in the pre-sales stage to improve the quality of bids we make to potential clients, and to improve the level of diligence performed in the proposal stage. This will be in the form of engineering calculations, estimations, design drawings, roof layouts and analysis/feasibility.

The SE will report directly to the Head of Solutions ("HoS") and Lead Solutions Architect ("LSA"). The SE will be delegated tasks and projects by the HoS and LSA, and deal directly with the sales and projects personnel to execute those tasks and projects, with assistance and support from the HoS and LSA. Management of the workload, processes, training and development for the SE team will primarily be the responsibility of the Head of Solutions. Quality control processes will be developed in conjunction with the Head of Solutions, and implemented by the SE.

Successful performance is measured by:

  • Timely and well organised support of sales team processes;
  • Accurate and considered engineering input on sales engineering matters;
  • Continual development of tools and resources;
  • Development and maintenance of knowledge specific to the Australian commercial solar sector, and Smart Commercial Solar;
  • Providing engineering expertise to the broader solutions team;
  • Performing analyses and contributing to the development of analysis tools; and
  • Communicating effectively with the HoS and LSA on workload and timelines to task completion.
Key Responsibilities
  • Safety:TheSEis responsible forproducing pre-sales designs which will be safe to install once they reach the project stage.
  • Financial:The LA is responsible for ensuring financial outcomes presented to clients are accurate and that designs and estimations are reasonably accurate and considered.
  • Results/Output:The SE is responsible for ensuring their own output is of a high quality and meets reasonable turnaround times. Whilst the Head of Solutions will bear ultimate responsibility for Solutions team output, the SE will hold responsibility for quality control of their own analyses conducted, and for the development of adequate processes to ensure minimal errors occur in their work.
  • Quality:The SE will hold responsibility for quality control of their own output, and for the development of adequate processes to ensure minimal errors occur.
  • People Management:The SE will not have any direct reports, but will be expected to effectively management intra-company relationships so that expectations and outputs are achieved smoothly.
  • Compliance:The SE will be responsible for ensuring that design outputs are accurate and do not pose compliance risks to the company.
  • Reporting:The SE will be responsible for measuring and monitoring their throughput, output, and development. These metrics will be reported to the Head of Solutions to provide insights into the efficiency and function of their work.
Required Skill Set

The SE requires the following key skills and capability:

  • Understanding of general engineering principles;
  • Ability to manage workflow and expectations from sales team;
  • Ability to learn and interpret Australian Standards, particularly relating to solar;
  • Working knowledge of multiple analyses tools such as Excel, but advantageous to know any other analysis software;
  • Communication skills to interpret and provide expert advice on internal and external requests and requirements;
  • Ability to produce design drawings, such as site plans and SLDs; and
  • Knowledge of solar system components and manufacturers.
