About the Role:

This is a Permanent position either Part Time or Full Time within Butterfly Ward, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

We are looking for Registered Nurses with neonatal critical care nursing knowledge and skills to support our neonatal intensive care unit at the Royal Childrens Hospital (RCH).

You will be responsible for providing high quality nursing care to infants and their families and act as an expert clinical practitioner, while working with the wider multidisciplinary team to promote a progressive attitude to the continual improvement of patient care through research and evidence-based practice.

A Registered Nurse in NICU will ensure that clinical practice and delivery of care is consistent with RCH and Australian Nurses and Midwifery Council standards, by providing comprehensive, safe, evidence-based practice to facilitate optimal health outcomes.

There are multiple career opportunities available, and we welcome applications from all levels of nursing experience. Scholarships will be offered for those who wish to continue further study on Butterfly Ward.

Classification for this position will range from YP4 – YP9 (Grade 2 Year 3 to Grade 2 Year 8) (FTE base salary $75,134 to $95,378 per annum, plus superannuation)

What you'll achieve:

  • Actively support and promote the involvement of parents/carers in the planning, management, and evaluation of care.
  • Maintaining a proactive approach to the development of clinical skills within the unit ensuring that practice reflects best practice standards, local and national policies and are in keeping with relevant professional standards.
  • Using evidence-based practice and a holistic approach to individualised nursing care; assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for babies within the clinical area.

Your skills and experience:

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) administered though the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA).
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing personal and professional development, as evidenced in a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) record/Professional Practice Portfolio (PPP).
  • Recent experience working within a neonatal setting (preferred).
  • Holds Post Graduate Certificate in Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing (desirable).

About Butterfly ward, Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a Level 6b quaternary-level referral service which provides intensive and high-dependency family-centred care to approximately 800 infants each year. The NICU has a capacity of 35 cots (18 intensive care, 17 high dependency) and receives referrals of infants from a) maternity hospitals throughout Victoria, southern NSW and Tasmania, b) tertiary perinatal centres, and c) from within the RCH.
