About the Opportunity:


The "Mechanical Engineering Technician", internally known as "Accelerator Support Technician", provides mechanical expertise to ensure the safe, reliable and high performance of 4 tandem accelerators.

The role contributes to the maintenance and development team that ensures the facilities are in a ready to use state for the accelerator researchers.

The technician provides hands-on mechanical expertise and utilises a variety of software tools to support the engineering and maintenance activities.

Your Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organise and implement routine and unscheduled maintenance of plant and equipment, using technical expertise to diagnose, repair and return equipment back to service in a timely manner.
  • Plan and execute improvements and upgrades to existing systems.
  • Assist in the design, development and construction of prototype equipment and components.
  • Maintain an inventory of crucial components, to ensure that repairs and maintenance can be conducted on demand.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor, Diploma, or Trade level engineering qualification in a mechanical engineering discipline (essential).
  • Experience working in an industrial or scientific environment.
  • Experience using workshop tools and machinery to manufacture and modify components (desirable).
  • Experience maintaining, assembling, and installing systems from engineering drawings and manuals.
  • Ability to interpret and produce engineering drawings using 3D CAD software (desirable).
