About the role


Ventia's contract with the Department of Justice are seeking engaging and supportive
Court Group Manager - Metropolitan Region to join the Court Security & Custodial Services team based in Canning Vale, Western Australia.

Whilst this role is based locally, regular travel is required to metropolitan locations, within your areas of responsibility.


This role will see you as a critical member of the Senior Management team, where you oversee and deliver an effective and efficient court operation and support the development of your team.


About you


Reporting directly into the Deputy Director, your primary responsibility is ensuring the safe, secure and efficient running of all courthouses within the Perth metropolitan region.

In addition, you will provide advisory management and operational expertise to the Operational Support Manager and Care Security Managers.

You will have day-to-day liaison with court officials, police and prison authorities throughout your area of responsibility, to ensure that contractual requirements are met.


Key duties but not limited to:

  • Ensure the deployment of personnel at courts meets the day-to-day requirements and establishes the most efficient resourcing possible
  • Manage and oversee operational planning and highrisk situations within your area of responsibilities
  • Investigate, address and report on staff disciplinary matters
  • Inspect and monitor court operations and ensure compliance with contractual requirements
  • Investigate and report on complaints relating to court activities
  • Inspect and check court premises to ensure the effectiveness and of security systems and emergency procedures and ensure that staff are aware of their responsibility
  • Regularly check on the safety, security and handling of PICs in line with documented procedures
  • Monitor the submission of incident reports and deal with them and/or forward to the Deputy Director with recommendations
  • Take control of emergency situations as required
  • Fulfil the responsibilities of Duty Manager on a rostered basis

Skills and experience:

  • Proven experience in managing change and delivering high standards
  • Experience in managing key performance indicators
  • Relevant qualifications in a discipline related to Corrective Practice or Court Security
  • Proven management experience operating in a court security/custodial services industry operational environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, a collaborative management style and the ability to forge highly productive internal and external working relationships
  • Personable and professional, with a strong capability to remain objective, unbiased and balanced in challenging environments
  • The ability to investigate, identify and analyse key issues and the associated alternative benefits and costs to develop practical solutions
  • Ability to seek all relevant information for problemsolving; investigate and probe for the facts from different perspectives and draw sound inferences and propose workable solutions to problems
