John Holland, CPB Contractors and Ghella will soon commence design and construction work for the Sydney Metro West - Eastern Tunnelling Package.


With a contract worth $1.63 billion, the Eastern Tunnelling Package includes construction of 3.5-kilometre tunnels under Sydney Harbour between The Bays and the Sydney CBD, and the excavation of Pyrmont and Hunter Street stations.

Starting at The Bays, tunnel boring machines will cross the harbour near the Anzac Bridge, before heading to the new Pyrmont station and then under Darling Harbour before reaching Hunter Street in the heart of the CBD.

This is the final piece in the puzzle to deliver the city-shaping Sydney Metro West project.


Once completed, Sydney Metro West will double rail capacity between greater Paramatta and the Sydney CBD, with travel times of around 20 minutes between the two centres.


The Role:

  • Facilitate induction training for all new hires, (including subcontractor workforce), ensuring training meets Project standards.
  • Make a positive first impression for new hires by creating a warm welcome and supporting them in transitioning into their roles.
  • Help facilitate a robust, engaging, and dynamic induction program for new hires.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to conduct ongoing refresher training in critical areas as identified by Safety, Quality, Environment, and Operations teams.
  • Gather and analyse training feedback and work to continually improve content and learner experience.
  • Conduct evidencebased workplace VOC assessments for plant such as Excavator, Articulated Haul Truck, EWP, Telehandler, Dogman and Skidsteer to ensure the workers' skills are current.
  • Consider safety aspects and conduct workplace VOC under simulated environments where there are issues of safety or environmental damage.
  • Ensure sufficient evidence is accumulated to ensure VOC assessments are valid and reliable.

Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of 3+ years' experience in vocational education and training
  • Demonstrated ability in facilitating live group training.
  • Experience conducting VOCs for plant, equipment, and tasks within the Construction industry.
  • Cert IV in Training and Assessment.
  • Hold the relevant units of competence and vocational experience for plant where workers are being assessed for VOC.
