Your role


Based in Perth with opportunities to travel to the Pilbara, the role reports to the Heritage Coordinator and assists with delivery of heritage services to Thalanyji members and partners.


You will recognise this means the role will have the privilege of working alongside traditional owners on country, and exists to protect Country and Culture.

Some of the broad and diverse duties will include:

  • Work closely with the Heritage Coordinator and On-Country Coordinator to coordinate and manage traditional owner survey teams.
  • Liaising with Thalanyji people.
  • Assist in facilitating meetings and providing information for Thalanyji people, proponents, and CEO.
  • Manage the administration of agreements and documents necessary to conduct heritage surveys as required.
  • Assist with logistics and management of timesheets.
  • Getting out on country, travelling to the Pilbara to perform field work on Thalanyji lands with traditional owner survey teams.
  • Assist the Heritage Coordinator with report writing.
  • Collate data of artefacts and other culturally significant findings in the field.

About you

This means you:

  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrate effective planning and organising skills, including time management, and know what to prioritise.
  • Display emotional intelligence and empathy for others as a part of your normal behaviours. You show this in how you integrate a team member's needs, opinions and preferences into the ways work is completed.
  • Respect and have an understanding of Aboriginal culture and their cultural identity.
  • Demonstrate exceptional ability to negotiate and build strong community relationships.

Your qualifications and experience

You have:

  • 1+ years field or relevant experience.
  • 2+ years' experience working in the Native Title sector, or for a Registered Native Title Body or Prescribed Body Corporate.
  • 2+ years' experience working in project management.
  • Experience exercising a high level of judgment and discretion.
  • Experience working with Aboriginal People, including an awareness and fundamental understanding of Aboriginal culture and communities (and the issues potentially faced in remote communities outside of Perth).


Although not required, if you have a degree in archaeology, anthropology, project management or a related field, this will be highly regarded.

Salary:
$110,000.00 per year
