Nickel West is one of the most sustainable nickel producers in the world and the world's leading nickel supplier to the battery metals market and part of our Minerals Australia business. Nickel West is a fully integrated mine-to-market business operating in various locations across Western Australia. All nickel operations (open-cut and underground mines, concentrators, a smelter and refinery) are located in Western Australia.
About the Role

  • The Minerals Australia Heritage Team is responsible for delivering dual goals for the company, delivering social value in line with our Reconciliation Action Plan and unlocking resource value in line with our Life of Asset Plans.
  • At BHP we believe Traditional Owners have intrinsic rights to the land on which we operate. The role of the Heritage Team is to ensure that the company delivers land access in line with the expectations of Traditional Owners and in line with our Charter Values.
  • We have multiple positions available in our Perth Heritage team reporting to the Manager Cultural Heritage.
  • Reporting to the Manager Cultural Heritage, your accountabilities include:
  • Building strong relationships with Traditional Owners and conducting research to understand the heritage landscape.
  • Collaborating internally with the operations to identify solutions to align on priorities and minimise our overall heritage impact.
  • Partnering with community organisations and working closely with government agencies.
  • Supporting BHP to meet its current production targets, future growth objectives and Reconciliation Action Plan incentives by facilitating heritage surveys and cultural understanding activities in line with relevant heritage legislation and company commitments.

About You


To be successful in the Specialist Heritage role you will be driven by a personal desire to make a positive difference in the community combined with a clear understanding of the role that the resources sector plays in cultural heritage management.

You will also have the following skills and attributes:

  • Tertiary qualification in Anthropology, Archaeology, Cultural Heritage Management, Indigenous Studies, or similar/equivalent experience.
  • Ability to develop and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with stakeholders through the use of excellent communication skills.
  • Proven experience working positively with Aboriginal people and communities.
  • Working knowledge of cultural heritage survey process, site recording methodologies, and Western Australia heritage legislation.
  • Agility to work as part of a team but also be comfortable working autonomously when required and make informed decisions.
  • Prior cultural heritage management experience within Western Australia will be considered beneficial.

Location and Roster
You will be based in Perth, Western Australia, in the multi award winning office tower - 'City Square'.

You will have stunning river views from your modern open plan office, state of the art facilities including virtual whiteboards and video conferencing facilities, 550 bicycle racks with ample lockers, showers and change room amenities and a large outdoor terrace with barbecues.


  • You will be working on Monday-Friday roster with ad hoc site travel. Flexible work is also offered.
