Fortescue is entering a phase of exponential growth and is expanding as we move towards our decarbonisation mission into green energy.

This means our Heritage team is expanding and looking for a Heritage Advisor to join their team.


Based in the Fortescue Future Industries (FFI) and Fortescue Metal Group Perth offices, the Heritage Advisor is responsible for supporting end-to-end delivery of the FFI Western States of Australia and NZ projects as well as the Fortescue Metals Group non iron ore exploration projects across Australia.

Reporting to the Heritage Principal - Project Development, the Advisor is responsible for providing strategic direction and technical advice to the business and project teams, in relation to the management and safe delivery of Fortescues cultural heritage requirements.


Key accountabilities will include:

  • Working safely to coordinate heritage surveys and other heritage related field activities in collaboration with Traditional Custodians, their representatives and internal stakeholders.
  • Providing strategic advice to internal stakeholders in regard to heritage approvals and related heritage functions.
  • The authorisation of onsite works, in compliance with Fortescue's management systems, to ensure compliance with the Western Australia Aboriginal Heritage Act, any future Aboriginal Act or Bill and Fortescue's land access agreements, commitments and obligations.
  • Build and enhance positive relations with key internal and external stakeholders to meet and advance operational and development requirements.
  • Engender a positive team and workplace culture Prepare heritage approvals documentation in an accurate and timely manner, and in accordance with business requirements
  • Assist in the collaboration of heritage content for external meetings with Native Title Parties and Government Regulators

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Previous experience in a similar role or a tertiary qualification in archaeology, anthropology, environmental science, sociology or law, a related discipline
  • Demonstrated ability to work safely and as a collaborative team member.
  • Excellent attention to detail and demonstrated ability to deliver results while working on multiple projects within tight timeframes.
  • Highly developed administrative and computer skills in the Microsoft Office suite and spatial management software (Arc GIS or similar). Ability to learn and use new software quickly and effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders from a diverse range of backgrounds, to establish and strengthen relationships. Highlevel interpersonal skills.
