The Competition Practice
The Competition group specialises in competition and intellectual property law and their practice focus spans across the following areas:
- competition and consumer law, including defending cartel proceedings, mergers and acquisitions, consumer protection, product liability, unconscionable conduct and the development of compliance programmes;
- trade mark, copyright and patent infringement/intellectual property dispute resolution;
- ACCC, Australian Securities and Investments Commission and ACMA investigations and prosecutions; and
- media, advertising, on-line marketing and brand protection.
The group was founded and is led by Zaven Mardirossian. Zaven is joined by Matthew Lees and Gabriel Sakkal, and together, the partners have a reputation for successfully representing some of the toughest ACCC investigations and prosecutions in the country.
The Competition group is based in Melbourne. It includes the three Partners mentioned above and two Senior Associates. It represents national and international retail and fashion brands and clients in financial services, online, petroleum and construction sectors.
The role
We are seeking a talented lawyer to join this exciting and dynamic team to be at the cutting edge of a relatively new area of law. You have an exceptional legal mind, as well as commercial and strategic nous. You want to feel challenged, and to be given opportunities to take on additional responsibility, have autonomy and perform to your own high standard. You genuinely love being a Competition and IP lawyer and enjoy having client contact. You want to feel like you are an important member of, and making a meaningful and valued contribution to, a team that is building something exciting and consistently outperforming its competitors. You are ambitious, enjoy success and are ready to move ahead of the pack.
Specifically, you have:
- between 1-4 years' post-admission litigation experience (in private practice);
- a strong knowledge of competition & IP law;
- the ability to identify key issues in a legal matter;
- commercial awareness and the ability to work effectively with clients;
- the ability to work independently on a matter with supervision;
- superior analytical, research, communication and drafting skills; and
- the ability to work autonomously and in a team environment.
