War Memorial Hospital (WMH) is a 3rd Schedule Aged Rehabilitation hospital, situated in Waverley, owned and operated by Uniting and part of the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD).

Services are comprised of 24-hour inpatient care, Monday to Friday outpatient departments, several specialist community teams inclusive of Transitional Aged Care, Aged Care Assessment Team, Geriatric Flying Squad, Young Onset Dementia, 6 day a week day centre program, 24-hour accommodation service for regional guests and the full range of hospital support services.

The primary purpose of this role is to assist in the delivery of a high-quality leisure program and provide social support to clients who attend the Day Centre Program with the support and guidance of the diversional therapy team.

This position is based at the Day Centre, and it provides a variety of suitable activities for older people, including those from diverse CALD background, and those who may suffer from mild to moderate dementia, via individual and group modalities.

The program provides a variety of centre based and community activities, such as bus outings.

This position also provides bus escort to and from the Day Centre to ensure client safety and duty of care.


This position has a strong focus on customer service and team work under the guidance and supervision of the Day Centre Program and Transport Services Manager, consistent with WMH, Uniting and South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) policies, procedures and standards.


We are looking for someone who has the right mix skills and experience, who has initiative, flexibility, good interpersonal skills and a positive personality who will demonstrate a commitment to working within the Uniting values and code of conduct.

This position is a permanent part-time role - Monday, Thursday & Friday.

The classification is Allied Health Assistant Level 1 to 3 (based on experience).

Selection Criteria:

  • Certificate IV in Leisure and Lifestyle or Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistant or equivalent qualifications or work experience.
  • Current NSW Drivers' licence Class C or class LR desirable
  • Demonstrated understanding of the roles of diversional therapists, Allied Health Assistants and Allied Health clinicians in a Day Centre, aged care and or rehabilitation setting.
  • Relevant experience and understanding of dementia care.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team and autonomously.
  • Proven interpersonal, computer, written, and verbal communication skills with an ability to communicate across all levels and departments both within War Memorial Hospital, Uniting and with external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy including ability to use MS Office suite, as well health information systems such as IMS+, eMR, CHOC.
  • Knowledge of and understanding of Work Health Safety Act & Manual Handling principles.
