The Opportunity

Transgrid is delivering the Federal and State Government's vision for a clean energy future, building the transmission super-highway which will transform the energy supply for millions of Australians. New renewable generation is being built across the eastern seaboard and will connect to the grid to get that electricity to market.

Our major projects are a priority for Governments and for the nation. The integration of renewables will secure and strengthen the electricity network and enable greater sharing between NSW, ACT, Victoria, South Australia and Queensland.

The purpose of the Senior Strategic Claims Manager is to inspire and lead claims management across Transgrid Major Projects, with an initial focus on the $5 billion HumeLink transmission project. The initial purpose of the role is to work with HumeLink East and West Contract Management teams direct claims management activities and provide guidance to the Project Director and commercial teams on Advance Warnings, Claims and Variations.

As Strategic Claims Manager you will provide strategic claims support to the HumeLink East ($1.4b) and HumeLink West ($1.5b) Delivery Contracts and expand to support additional contracts as projects achieve approval.

The role promotes a whole-of-business commercial perspective, integrating the commercial position of the delivery contracts and maintaining a balanced focus on the impact of change on the project's outcomes..

As Senior Strategic Claims Manager you will:

  • Provide strategic advice to the General Manager Commercial - Major projects and the Executive General Manager - Major Projects on all claims related matters.
  • Lead contract negotiations for all high value or complex claims.
  • Maintain the commercial integrity of Transgrid by ensuring all claims are considered and are actively resolved.
  • Ensure all audit and other reporting and regulatory obligation requirements are dealt with in a timely manner.
  • Ensure accurate reporting of ongoing claims and disputes.
  • Develop rapport and trusted relationships with stakeholders, including contractors and suppliers to support the project's success.
  • Prosecute Transgrid positions with Dispute Avoidance and Resolution Boards.
  • Analyse claims and coordinate with the delivery, legal and commercial teams to produce determinations.
  • Support and lead the Project Team to document the actions or activities contractually required for the proactive resolution of issues and claims.

Skills & Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline.
  • 15+ years previous experience in managing major project ($500m+ contract value) construction contracts
  • Extensive experience in assessing and managing highly complex variation and extensions of time claims for construction contracts valued in excess of $500 million.
  • Experience in managing dispute avoidance and resolution boards.
  • A proven track record in developing and executing Deeds of Settlement and/or Release.
  • Able to develop good working relationships - both internally and externally
  • Highly advanced negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Highly proficient in the use of business systems.
  • Strong analytical skills.
