The Opportunity


Council is seeking an energetic and enthusiastic person to join the Animal Management leadership team in a progressive and proactive environment that will work with the community to achieve Council's objectives.


The position will be based at our pound facility and provide day-to-day supervision and support to the Pound Services Team to ensure the pound facility is operated in accordance with the Code of Practice for the Operation of Shelters and Pounds.


Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise the operation of the Melton Pound ensuring all legislative requirements are adhered to.
  • Provide the community with services associated with reuniting of impounded animals and rehousing of suitable animals.
  • Support the Animal Management Coordinator to plan, develop and deliver a highly specialised and responsive service to the community.
  • Responsible for the health and wellbeing of all impounded animals in accordance with legislation and Council policy, including recommendations and assessments of animals as required (including health & temperament).
  • Establish processes to encourage rehoming of impounded animals through animal welfare groups.

About you

_ To be successful in this role you will have the following:_

  • Tertiary qualifications in Government (Statutory Compliance) and Animal Control & Regulation or commensurate experience working in animal shelters, pounds, kennels and/or veterinary clinic.
  • A broad range of competencies and high level decision making skills.
  • Establish an environment that motivates and supports people to achieve their best.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable legislation and codes of practice is desired.
  • Current valid Victorian Driver's Licence.
