About the Role

As the Research Assistant, you will undertake research activities in line with the University's research strategy. It is expected that you will work with an increasing degree of autonomy as skills and experience develop.

You will contribute to the "Mental Wellbeing Survey" research project conducted by the Mental Wellbeing Initiatives team, in collaboration with academics and experts across RMIT, which aims to promote and protect the mental health and wellbeing of all RMIT students and staff through effective health promotion and program evaluation activities.

These activities include an annual Wellbeing Survey, Local Area Action Planning Workshops, mental health promotion, Annual Report and others designed to improve mental wellbeing, reduce psychosocial risk, and prevent mental ill-health related to work or study.

To be successful in this position, you'll have the following

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Ability to work autonomously whilst displaying a strong commitment to work in a team environment, including the demonstrated ability to confidently and effectively work with colleagues, project team leaders, and industry partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and effectively manage varying workloads and respond to changing priorities as required.
  • Demonstrated high-level verbal and written communication skills for effective research collaboration and engagement.-
  • Strong interest in organisational psychology, mental health promotion, public health, or community psychology

Mandatory:
A postgraduate degree (Honours, Masters or doctoral degree) in behavioural or social sciences or a related discipline.

  • To reduce student and staff exposure to avoidable risk factors within the learning and work environment and increase their resilience and social supports.
  • To increase the proportion of students and staff who seek and obtain timely assistance for emerging or existing mental health conditions, and experience recovery.
The Mental Wellbeing program of work is guided by five key principles:

  • We create a continuum of intervention that help our people stay well, take early action and support recovery.
  • We take an integrated approach to student and staff mental wellbeing while continuing to address the unique needs of diverse groups at RMIT.
  • We embed mental wellbeing across all that we do.
  • We promote mental wellbeing as a shared responsibility.
  • We work across the student and staff lifecycle and align activities with the rhythm of the university.
