The opportunity:

We are seeking a Maritime Engineer to join our team in Sydney to assist with a growing pipeline of work.

Working closely with our local, highly regarded Principal Maritime Engineer you will be an integral part of the team delivering on a broad range of interesting marine projects.


You will be responsible for:
Analysis and designing of a broad range of maritime structures utilising suitable software, ensuring compliance with required standards, and in a range of structural materialsDesign of maritime structures from concept through to completionConstruction phases services for maritime structures including site inspections, shop drawing reviews, piling record reviews and re4sponses to RFIsUndertaking condition assessments and preparing condition reports on maritime structuresPreparing remediation works designs and specifications for maritime structuresLiaising with clients, project managers, contractors, and our internal staff (other engineers and drafters)

With our support and training you will work towards:

Being the point of contact for a range of our clientsPreparing (or assisting in the preparation of) fee proposals for new projectsManaging projects including technical, deliverables and financialTo be successful in this role, you are encouraged to have:Civil or structural bachelor's degree qualification – recognised by Engineers Australia if an overseas qualification.

5 – 10 years of relevant experience in maritime structuresAbility to undertake enclosed water wave climate assessments would be considered an advantage but is not a requirementAbility to calculate wave loading on structuresExperience in undertaking condition assessments in accordance with WSCAM or other reporting formats would be considered an advantage but is not a requirementExperience working with a broad range of clients from the government and private sectorsAbility to work on local and interstate projects with local and interstate teamsExperience with some of the following would highly regarded:
Wharves, jetties and pedestrian boardwalksBerthing and mooring structures including dolphins and fendersSeawalls, slipways, boat lift cradles and boat rampsHardstandsMarinas (including layout and access ramps)

Floating structures (stability design, flotation design and structural design)Additionally, familiarity with some of the flowing standards would also be highly regarded:

AS3962 – Guidelines for design of marinasAS4997 – Guidelines for design of maritime structuresRelevant structural design standards – loading codes, piling, concrete, steel, aluminium, and timberPIANC codesBS6349 – British standard for maritime worksDesign of FRP membersJob locationThis role is based at Tonkin's Sydney office.
